Peter Beattie Artwork
Queensland - 15/06/2005
I’m not a political person. I don’t follow any particular party. But I have to say I found it amusing when the Liberal party kicked up a big stink about Peter Beattie’s face appearing in artwork on a telecommunications box on the corner of Adelaide and Edward Streets in Brisbane city. They claimed it was "political advertising".
I didn’t see any messages in the artwork that said "vote for Peter Beattie" or even that "Peter Beattie is a good guy". It was simply a painting of his face.
I am sure Mr Beattie’s name appears on many plaques – "Opened by the Honourable Peter Beattie" and so forth. Is this also political advertising? If he opens a lot of places, wouldn’t this be considered market saturation?
What I find MOST amusing is that even though I walk past the corner containing this artwork on the way to work every day, I hadn’t actually noticed it until after it appeared on the News. I am sure a lot of people had not and would not have seen it if it wasn’t on the News. The Liberals complained that it was political advertising, but by complaining they only ensured that even more people would see it! Duh!!
