Little TV person
General - 29/12/2004
At first, I started to wonder when Channel 7 started airing their new ads depicting a love story between a human and a little TV person. One ad includes a young guy skipping around with a TV person. The other ad shows a girl with a TV person. For a while I was wondering whether this TV person was a guy or a girl – and whether there were gay overtones to the whole advertising campaign. Add to that the cheating – as this TV person was seeing both the guy and the girl at the same time.
But then I saw the ad with the girl right through to the end – where she marries the TV person she’s seeing. The TV person’s family is also there – a family of TV people. This made me realise that there wasn’t just one TV person... that there is in fact a race of TV people. There seems to be no clear indication of a TV person’s sex, so the gay overtone theory cannot be laid completely to rest. But it’s good to know that there hasn’t been any cheating.
Perhaps by not indicating the sex of the TV person, Channel 7 is showing its acceptance that the TV person could be a guy or girl in each case. Perhaps they’re trying to be a little more gay-friendly without incurring the wrath of the Christians and other oppressors. One thing is certain though... I’ve had way too much spare time!!
