When people aren’t human

International - 3/09/2004

For several days, Chechen rebels have held up to 1,500 people hostage.  Many of the 1,500 people are children.  These Chechen rebels deliberately targeted a school.  They deliberately targeted children.  They refuse to accept food, water and medication for the children.

The parents must be completely distraught, but what about the permanent affects on the lives of the children involved?  These children will be scarred for life.

What kind of person deliberately and permanently harms hundreds of innocent children for their own political gains?  To me, the answer is quite simple.  Someone who is not human!  Someone who has violence and hatred so entrenched in their system, they are unable to see the value of human life.

I don’t know the background of the whole Chechen thing.  Perhaps these people have a reason to be angry.  But quite frankly, I don’t care – and neither will most people who hear what these barbarians are doing.  They are not winning any sympathy from people in Russia or anywhere in the world.  Nothing can justify their actions.
