Olympics. Share the dream? Apparently not!
Australia - 26/08/2004
It's great to be able to share the excitement, joy, dreams and even the heartache of the Australian athletes in the Olympic Games. Well it is - provided you catch the telecast at the right time or see the glimpse of it on the news.
Part of the Aussie spirit is supporting and encouraging your fellow Aussies. It's that sharing spirit that inspires Australians to send Hero Messages to our athletes. Everyone is talking about the Olympics - supporting our athletes. Every news, current events and talk show wants to share the Aussie spirit and the true spirit of the Olympic Games.
But severe restrictions on the rebroadcasting of Channel 7’s telecast reduces the ability for other networks to share the Aussie spirit. Each week, show like Channel 10’s "The Panel" discuss the events of the Games. But if you happened to miss what they’re talking about, you’re left in the dark. (Fortunately "The Panel" has come up with a creative way to jog your memory – with events being re-enacted by kids.)
How is preventing a few seconds of rebroadcasting protecting the Olympic Games or the telecast network – especially during the games! How are other networks meant to share the dream? The restrictions placed on rebroadcasting are pointless, selfish and un-Australian!
