<< December 2009 - Level Crossing Incident >>

This is what happens when you ignore lights and boom gates at level crossings! Some idiot took out both gates! Fortunately it wasn't worse! (Disclaimer: Photos were taken with my mobile phone camera, so are very poor quality.)

This boom gate was pushed around so it was over one of the tracks. Fortunately the train wasn't coming from the other direction or it would have hit the boom gate with potentially disastrous consequences for anyone standing nearby.

The other boom gate ended up on the ground beside the road.

Fortunately the gate just popped off and didn't break. Electrical cables were still intact.

Police on the scene - directing traffic away from the crossing.

People headed to the only visible bus stop in the area. They were like sheep, assuming someone knew what they were doing. No bus arrived for during the time that we were there.

The train can't go anywhere until the gates are fixed.

The QR guys get to work fixing the gates.

To reattach the other gate, they have to prop up the counter-weight behind the post.

With the second gate reattached, we could reboard the train and continue on our way. Only took 30 minutes from incident to resumption. Good effort!
